Beer Quality in Leeds
Leeds CAMRA are monitoring the quality of Real Ale in the Leeds area. To do this, we are using the National Beer Scoring Scheme (NBSS) set up by CAMRA. Wallet-sized cards are used to score beer in a particular pub, then the scores are collated to give an overall impression of beer quality in individual pubs and across the city.
The wording on the cards goes like this:
0. Undrinkable. No cask ale available or so poor you have to take it back or can’t finish it.
1. Poor. Beer that is anything from barely drinkable to drinkable with considerable resentment.
2. Average. Competently kept, drinkable pint but doesn’t inspire in any way, not worth moving to another pub but you drink the beer without really noticing.
3. Good. Good beer in good form. You may cancel plans to move to the next pub. You want to stay for another pint and may seek out the beer again.
4. Very Good. Excellent beer in excellent condition.
5. Perfect. Probably the best you are ever likely to find. A seasoned drinker will award this score very rarely.
If you’d like to help, follow this link to the CAMRA site and download yourself some cards. When you’ve filled them in, post them to us, and we’ll use them to create a profile of Real Ale quality in Leeds. You’ll be helping Leeds CAMRA monitor Real Ale in the city, and have some beer-tasting fun in the process!
