The Leeds branch was originally a spin-off of the West Riding branch and had its first ‘test support’ meeting at the Central Station (the pub of many names, Scruffy Murphy's, The Central/Phoenix Gastro Bar, Editor's Draft...) in 1973. Over 100 supporters turned up!
From its original 100 supporters, Leeds CAMRA now has a membership of over 2300, and has a calendar of events for everyone to join in with. Members are welcome to come along and share news about what’s happening beer-wise in the area. Then there's the odd social to a brewery, beer census shenanigans and pub crawls. Why not join us?
As you can see from our Awards page, we like giving out Awards! Always democratically chosen at meetings, our winners are worthy – support them if you can.
New Full Measure is the branch’s quarterly newsletter – look out for it in Leeds pubs to get all the latest news and views on local campaigns, breweries, pubs and the beery scene in general.
We run our very own Leeds CAMRA Beer Festival at Beckett’s University Student Union Bar in June. Before then it’s been at Pudsey Civic Hall since 1994, and has become known as one of the biggest and best value-for-money festivals in the region.
As well as enjoying a sherbet or two, we have a strong campaigning side, with a great track record of helping to save threatened pubs and help conserve those we have. Have a look at the Pub Preservation section.
Hello everyone. I’m Warren as both branch Membership Secretary and Young Members Contact I’d like to welcome you to Leeds CAMRA, whether you’re 18 or 80, already a member or thinking about joining.
There are around 2,300 members in Leeds branch and approaching 200,000 nationally, this makes us the 8th largest branch in the country but we’re much more than just a big number. There are around 18,000 members nationally who are 30 or under (Young Members) with around 200 in the Leeds branch.
We’re an active bunch and have many things going on - City Centre Socials on weekday evenings, Saturday Socials that visit places further out, brewery tours, pub presentations and the annual Leeds Beer Festival. That’s all on top of the monthly meetings that arrange campaigning at both local and national levels to promote real ale, breweries and pubs.
We know that everyone’s busy so there is a monthly email sent to members, Ale Delight, that lets you know what’s happening beer-wise around Leeds. You can even help select venues for the Good Beer Guide, nominate pubs for awards and vote online. Plus we’re active on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube so it’s even easier to keep in touch.
If you have any comments, questions or suggestions that’s what I’m here for: or . I hope to hear from you soon.
Hi! I'm Warren, your friendly Membership Person!
